Science Technology

Welcome to the School of Science Technology, Federal Polytechnic, Mubi. Adamawa State, Nigeria.

The School currently has eleven academic departments offering Higher National Diploma (HND), National Diploma (ND), Diploma and Certificate programmes in over eighteen academic disciplines, making it the largest of the seven Schools in the Polytechnic.

The School of Science is a foundation school in the Polytechnic having, been established with the Polytechnic in the 1979/1980 academic session. It midwifed all the other departments in the schools of Agriculture, Engineering, and Environmental Science as it recruited its first batch of students into the Pre-National Diploma (Pre-ND) programme, trained them in the basic sciences, mathematics and English language and distributed them by their aptitudes to become the pioneer students in all the departments in the three schools in the 1980/1981 academic year.

This exercise made up for whatever deficiencies in guidance counselling the students had suffered in their primary and post-primary days and ensured the highest quality output of our graduates. It is the view of the School of Science that this scrapped exercise be revisited for re-introduction.
The School of Science has a very high assemblage of dedicated and efficiently qualified academics as can be seen from the staff profiles of the various departments. Although all our departments are doing very well, our special areas of excellence include the departments of Food Science and Technology and our HND options in Science Laboratory Technology both of which parade state-of-the-art equipment such as the extruder machine, the gas chromatograph (GC), the Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) spectrometer etc. The FST department is also working with our Nutrition and Dietetics department to formulate high-energy foods suitable for malnourished persons in crises situations and follow-ups of diabetics and hypertension patients in the NUD clinic. The graduates of the departments of Hospitality Management and Computer Science have very high level presence in industries and establishments across the country and beyond. One of the doctors in the Polytechnic health facility is an alumni from the Science Laboratory Science Technology department. Several of the pioneer students are already university professors etc. The alumni page speaks for itself on the quality of the products of the School of Science.

Our focus remains to work in consonance with the entire Polytechnic to create a school/faculty that combines discipline, dedication, hard work, continuous human development and comradeship to produce men and women that will impact the technological and industrial landscape of the Nigerian nation positively. We aim to achieve this vision by combining continuous staff development, acquisition of the latest relevant technologies including flexible on-line skills to train, in theory and practice, students who will become the reference point of good education in both character and learning.

We welcome wholeheartedly, any assistance – local and foreign – to enable us continue to achieve this lofty standards we have set for ourselves.

Long live the School of Science Technology

Long live the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
