Communication Technology

The school was created from the school of Business and Management Technology as school of Applied Science in 2012. It was renamed School of Communication and Information Technology in 2013.

The School of Communication and Information Technology is engaged in the production of manpower to provide services needed by libraries, offices, organizations and individuals.  This is done through educating students by building on the Polytechnic’s traditions of academic excellence.

The school attracts students seeking Library and Information Science, Mass Communication, Office Technology and Management education through dynamic and responsive academic programmes within the Polytechnic.  Students and staff are engaged in a vibrant learning community which is student focused.

The School aims are fulfilled by taking a comprehensive approach across a wider range of disciplines in Librarianship, Mass Communication, Office Technology and Management and the school tries to pursue the highest level of excellence through teaching learning and research.  The focus is on intellect, energy and resources on key strategic initiatives with measurable objectives to pursue excellence and innovation.

VThe School operates a number of departments and offers students a wide range of services such as face-to-face tutorial, e-library services, Studios and workshop facilities to enable them engage with research projects relating to their studies. The School has the following departments:

DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE

The Department of Library and Information Science offers the following programmes:

  • National Diploma (ND) Library and Information Science
  • Higher National Diploma (HND) Library and Information Science

National Diploma (ND) Library and Information Science Entry Requirement

Minimum entry requirement:  Candidates for admission into the National Diploma (ND) programme should have at least four/merit passes at one sitting or five at two sittings in WASC/GCE (OL) SSC/NECO/NABTEB/Teachers Grade II Certificate which must include English language and Mathematics.

The National Diploma Programme lasts for two academic sessions of two semesters each.

Higher National Diploma (HND) Library and Information Science Entry Requirement

Candidates for the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Library and Information Science must be a holder of an accredited National Diploma in Library and Information Science approved by NBTE.  Such a candidate must have obtained a cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of not less than 2.5 on a five point scale.  In addition, the candidate must have completed one year Post-ND cognate work experience.

The HND programme lasts for two academic sessions of two semesters each.

O-Level Entry Qualification

 Credit in English Language (Not Literature) and Credit in Mathematics (Compulsory). Credit in any three of the following subjects:

  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Business Methods
  • Principles of Accounts
  • Geography
  • Office Practice
  • Government
  • Shorthand
  • Typewriting

Entry requirement for HND

‘O’ level as stated above in ND, plus at least Lower Credit in ND or a Pass with one year work experience or one year industrial attachment.
